Though questions still swirl regarding when the two will meet on the gridiron again, Penn State and Pittsburgh will clash on the basketball court in 2025.

On Thursday, the Nittany Lions announced a nonconference matchup against the Panthers, slated for Dec. 21 at the Giant Center in Hershey, the home of the Hershey Bears hockey team.

The meeting will be the 149th between the in-state rivals, with Penn State holding a slight 76-72 advantage in the all-time series.

The last game between the two came in 2017, a dominant 85-54 win for Penn State as part of the Legends Classic in Brooklyn. However, Pitt is 5-1 in the last six matchups.

The Nittany Lions are coming off a disappointing 16-15 season, including a 6-14 record in Big Ten play. The Panthers had a similarly underwhelming year at 17-15, with an 8-12 ACC record.

Entering his third season as Penn State’s head coach, Mike Rhoades lost much of last season’s production but brings in the highest ranked recruiting class in program history. A marquee win against a Keystone State foe would help boost morale before heading into the thick of conference play.

The team said tipoff time, ticketing information and broadcast details will be announced at a later date.
